to-go records at alphaville: S.C.A.B., YUVEES, SUBURBAN SPEED

Yuvees at Alphaville 2/20/25

Thursday night at Alphaville, New York locals S.C.A.B., YUVEES, and Suburban Speed played a lively show hosted by To-Go Records, a DIY and indie label based in Nashville. The showcase was part of To-Go’s “Discovering NYC” compilation tape release as they expand into the New York scene.

Bushwick’s Alphaville is a local scene staple, and an ideal spot to discover new local and DIY artists. S.C.A.B. sits somewhere on the indie-punk spectrum, and are instantly likable. (S.C.A.B., we were told, is an acronym for the original four members’ names.) They reminded me of Atlanta favorites Omni, with similar angular guitar riffs and clean tones. They played a not-yet-released song that I still can’t get out of my head.

Following S.C.A.B. was punk group YUVEES, who played an explosive, engaging set (punctuated by their lead vocalist’s startlingly accurate RFK Jr. impression). If you like Nashville locals Snooper, you’ll probably like YUVEES. Beyond just being a ton of fun, they’re a group of multitalented instrumentalists, as evidenced by their keys player also doing this:

I was worried I wasn’t caffeinated enough to be out late on a Thursday, but needless to say, YUVEES woke me right up, and in the best way. Some more moments from their energetic set:

Unfortunately, I missed Suburban Speed’s set, but I recommend giving them a listen. To-Go Records’ “Discovering NYC” compilation tape—featuring these artists and many more local acts—is available for tape purchase and streaming on Bandcamp.
